About Us

The Syracuse Teacher Center is proud to be part of the New York State Teacher Center Network, a statewide system of 124 Teacher Centers dedicated to strengthening teaching and learning across New York State

Since our founding in 1984 under NYS Education Law 316, we have served educators throughout the Syracuse area by providing meaningful, job‑embedded professional learning designed for teachers, by teachers.

Located at 1005 West Fayette Street, Suite 1D, Syracuse, NY, the Center plays a vital role in supporting educators from public, private, and parochial schools, as well as collaborating with higher education institutions and community partners.

Our Mission

The Syracuse Teacher Center is committed to enhancing the professional practice of educators by offering high‑quality learning opportunities that directly impact classroom instruction and student success. The knowledge and skills teachers gain through our programming contribute to stronger academic and social outcomes for all learners.

We believe in teacher‑driven professional development—responsive to the needs, ideas, and expertise of the educators we serve.

What We Do

As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence, we provide:

Professional Learning

We offer workshops, trainings, and job‑embedded learning aligned to instructional best practices, state initiatives, and the evolving needs of educators. Teacher Centers statewide have collectively delivered over 143,000 learning opportunities to more than 350,000 educators, keeping teachers at the forefront of educational innovation.

Instructional Resources & Tools

Our Center provides hands‑on access to specialized equipment to support classroom creativity and instructional design, including:

  • Poster printer for enlarging documents and visuals
  • Ellison die‑cut machines and hundreds of dies
  • Spiral book binding machine
  • Button maker for events and classroom projects

These tools help teachers bring ideas to life, create engaging learning environments, and showcase student work.

Collaboration & Community

We maintain strong partnerships with:

  • Syracuse City School District (our Local Education Agency sponsor)
  • Private and parochial schools
  • Higher education institutions
  • Regional and statewide education networks

These relationships enrich our programs and ensure that educators have access to diverse expertise and resources.

Governance

The Syracuse Teacher Center is guided by a Policy Board of 19 members, representing teachers, administrators, parents, higher education, and private/parochial schools. This collaborative governance model ensures that our programs reflect the needs of the educational community we serve.

Our Legacy of Service

For over 40 years, the Syracuse Teacher Center has been dedicated to advancing educator growth and improving student learning. Our long‑standing commitment to professional development continues to shape classrooms across Central New York. [mapquest.com]
